* 수동태: 4형식 문장의 수동태와 5형식 문장의 수동태
- 간접 목적어와 직접 목적어를 주어로 하는 두 개의 수동태가 가능합니다.
직접 목적어가 주어인 경우 간접 목적어 앞에 to, for 등의 전치사가 쓰입니다.
1) Dave gave the police the information.
- The police WERE GIVEN the information by Dave. (간접 목적어가 주어로)
- The information WAS GIVEN TO the police by Dave. (직접 목적어가 주어로)
2) buy, make, cook 일 때: 직접 목적어만 주어가 될 수 있습니다.
Mom bought me the new piano.
- The new piano WAS BOUGHT FOR me by mom. (O)
- I was bought the new piano by mom. (X)
His preoccupation with money made him greedy.
- He WAS MADE greedy by his preoccupation with money.
* 5형식 문장의 수동태: 명사나 형용사가 목적격 보어인 5형식 문장은 그 앞의 명사인 목적어를 주어로 합니다
- We elected him the CEO of the company.
- He WAS ELECTED the CEO of the company by us.
Now people call him, "the Ironman"
- Now he IS CALLED, "the Ironman"
