◈ 'comfortable' 과 'convenient'의 구분
'comfortable' 과 'convenient'
이 두 단어를 가끔 혼돈해서 사용하는 분들이 있습니다.
확연히 다른 두 단어를 살펴보겠습니다.
* comfortable: 신체적인 안락함을 제공 해주는 어떤 물건을 묘사할 때 사용하며, 사람을 묘사할 때는 사용 하지 않습니다.
Ex) A comfortable chair or pillow
My friend is very comfortable. (X)
말하는 사람 자신의 정신적, 신체적 편안함을 묘사 할 때는 'FEEL comfortable' or 'BE comfortable' 이라고 표현 합니다.
Ex) I feel comfortable with my friends.
I am comfortable in this class.
I don't feel comfortable traveling alone.
I am not comfortable speaking in front of people.
* convenient: '편리한' 이라는 뜻이지만, 느낌을 표현 하기 위해서는 사용 할 수 없습니다.
Ex) I feel convenient studying here. (X)
대신, I feel comfortable studying here. (O)
convenient 는 접근하기 용이하거나 어떤 목적에 적당한 경우에 쓰이며, 일반적으로 물건이나 수단을 묘사 하는데 쓰이고, 역시 사람을 묘사 할 때는 사용 할 수 없습니다.
Ex) The subway is a very convenient way to get to work.
My secretary is very convenient. (X)
대신, My secretary is efficient or good. (O)
